    Default Ball bar test vf2

    Hello,
Looking at used VF2 seller says Ball bar test is .0004 on a 2"dia.
This appears to me not that great. On a 6"diameter would be .0012.
Thats all info that i have.
    Any opinion would be appreciated.
    Thanks to all
    Ken

A ball bar test covers many different test cycles, so this is a pretty vague comment. If you proceed, and do so with caution, ask for the full ball bar analysis and when it was done.

Just for an example, spindle tram is .0005" @ 10" dia.
I can't think of a test of the top of my head where .0004" @ 2" is good, but then again, there is missing information.

    Good luck on your search!

    Thanks for your reply
You confirm what I thought too.
I think the prudent thing to do would have third party run test before making any purchase.
There is plenty of Haas service reps close.
It would be worth it so I dont end up with worn out pos.
    Thanks again

You can't simply multiply to get the .0012 on 6" with this limited info. If servo mismatch, it may stay the same, backlash values causing it, it will stay the same, cyclic error, it stays the same. Without the full report, you have no idea if it's something serious, or not. Better question, why or how did they do a 2" diameter. Only the small circle adapter goes that small, and that's more set up and money than the standard ball bar length.
