Default Oil getting in to the coolant

    Anyone else have this problem?
We have a VF-5 SS (2016 Model with the Next Gen Control)
This machine has the grease cartridge for lubrication.
We've had an on-going problem with oil getting in the coolant.
Haas tech said it was not oil, but the coolant separating and the concentrate floating on top.
We have since cleaned out the coolant tank and machine and re-filled with another type of coolant (the same as the other two machines are running).
The problem is still there. A layer of dark oil floating on the coolant.
Any ideas as to where this is coming from?

    Thanks,
    Joe

There is quite a few options that can cause this. It could be anti rust from the material, it could be the coolant ect... chances are that it is one of the 2 a 2016 HAAS uses grease so you would see red, and the spindle oilier would not leave behind oil on top of the coolant even if there was a major leak. My advice would be to get your coolant tested by a lab. Depending on where you are located i may be able to help with that if you would like.

Well, no anti-rust here...all we work with is aluminum or stainless...99.9% aluminum.
The grease this one uses is a "liquid grease". It's Blue, not Red like the thicker grease. Our VF-6 uses the Red grease.
We've also ruled out the coolant. All of our machines use the same coolant.
None of the other machines have this problem. That's what is so baffling.

Coolant could be getting under the way covers allowing it to drip on top of some surfaces that Haas uses to wipe on the surfaces for anti rusting during shipping.

That was a thought, but the machine is a year old.
This oil builds up rapidly. We skim it, or vacuum it off the surface and in a day or two, it's back...

Do you have a gearbox? If it's not a gearbox the only other oil source is the spindle. Which is a very very low output to spindle. So if the coolant is getting under the way covers washing the liquid grease it's somewhat possible. On the newer Haas machines is the gearbox oil, spindle bijuir oil or liquid grease mixing underneath the way covers. The parts could have oil on them from being saw cut.. if they're clean those are the pnly 3 sources you could get oil.. unless you're burning water out of your coolant mixture fast and and you refill you see some of the older oil out of the newer coolant.

    Nope, no gear box.

Have you pulled back the X and Y axis way covers to inspect? How quickly are you using up the grease?
