Default What type of serial cable? (controller to servo box)

    Hey everyone,

I am going to be linking our servo control box to the controller of our VF-4, i talked to our HFO and he said they do not offer the cable we need.
From what they said, i need a sheilded straight through serial cable, i assume we will need male connectors on both ends. I'm sure we're not the only ones doing this, maybe you guys can give me some guidance. I am a bit leery of buying it from places like amazon and getting a terrible product. Also we would need at least 15 or so feet of the stuff, which doesn't seem too easy to come by.

Thanks for any help you can offer,

    -Tony

edit: we will be linking the controller to the box so we can index without an operator there.

Any 25 pin serial cable will work just fine. You should be able to find them locally anywhere computer supplies are sold or online as you posted.

I take it your VF-4 is not 4th axis ready? If it is, you can skip the seperate control box and have a true 4th axis.

That is super cheap, but I don't see anything about it being shielded. They have the m/m for under 7 bucks.

You nailed it, the vf4 is not 4th axis ready. But we don't need a true 4th axis, so this seemed like the best option considering we already have all the hardware...(minus the cable)

You don't need shielded cable. I've been doing this for years with standard cable and it works great!

I just connected up a couple of HAAS for RS232 and used the 3 wire cable, hardware handshake on both ends jumpered out.
HAAS also point to the 3 wire cable being all that is necessary.
