Hi everyone, hopefully someone has come across this procedure before.
Working on a 1997 HL4 lathe.
Turret was bumped and knocked out of align radially. The turret has been realigned and moved onto the adjustment of centreline. The clocked new centreline is now -0.065mm from zero (0.000)
I carried out the following procedure for adjusting the centreline by adjusting the pulse coder figure stored in parameter 254.
clocked the tool holding pocket with a DTi clock (-0.065mm x axis error)
Setting 7 parameter write was enabled
Alarm Page
Typed "DEBUG" and pressed WRITE
Pressed POSITION
Page up to display X axis actual position pulse coder figure
Copied this figure and entered it into Parameter 254.
powered down and referenced out machine.
brought axis down to zero and it is still out of position by 0.065mm.
Tried multiple times, even trying with a figure far away from where it should be and it still has no impact on the position.
Is there something I am not doing correctly with this procedure?
Did you figure this out? I'm in the process of realigning my head stock and turret and I'm going to have to do the same later today. That is the procedure I've seen to do but haven't gotten to that point yet.
I see doing some searching there are two ways that come up, one is
1. Record X-axis center line value.
2. Align spindle and turret if required first.
3. Use coaxial indicator and find the center of an i.d. pocket.
4. Record the machine X-axis Machine Position on a piece of paper.
5. Go to setting 7 turn off Parameter lock (Push E Stop)
6. Go to Parameter 254 record the number.
7. Use the number from 254 in a formula
divided parameter 254 by recorded old X-axis center line, times new X-axis position value. Change value in parameter 254 to this.
Example 1109217 / -21.3233= 52019.012 x –21.3134 = 1108702 Enter in this < number for PA 254
8, Retouch off all of your tools.
and the other is
(skipped the beginning as its sitting dialed in now)
4. To reset centerline, stick indicator in chuck so you can swipe 360° circle in T1 bored pocket. Adjust "X" until it reads 0 on the indicator. To adjust height, mount a tool holder in top pocket, loosen shcs bolts on face of turret "snug", and use a non marring hammer to tap cw or ccw to adjust height on indicator to 0. Tighten screws back down and check full 360° swipe to make sure its zero all the way around.
5. With "X" still in position, go to alarm page, type "debug", press "write". Press Position button, page up to POS-RAW DAT 1 page. Observe the "X" axis COMMAND position. Copy this number to parameter 254 as a positive number with no decimal point.
6. Go back to alarm screen, type "debug", then hit write to exit debug mode.
So which way is right? I haven't changed anything but there's a pretty big discrepancy when I check each way.
When i use the formula I get 1559310/-22.3882 x -22.3881=1559303 ( I know the x only changed .0001 but i just got this machine and want it setup correctly)
But when i go into DEBUG mode and look at the raw position value it is at 1552822?
