Default HAAS ST30 Turret Alignment Procedure

Hi Does any one have a procedure for re aligning the turret on an ST30?

This is the type of turret I have

    Thanks John

There is no alignment procedure, there is a tool change offset and grid offset to line the gears up so the turret can clamp properly. Was this machine involved in a crash that you suspect that the turret is off center? To properly align the turret on the ST lathes is by making sure the wedge, turret box, spindle head stock are all square.. then you move the spindle head stock or wedge to bring the tool on centerline. Unfortunately it's not like the SL's where you can adjust the turret radially on the couplings. The ST couplings are actually machined into the casting so they aren't adjustable.

Have an ST30 that has the same problem. Knocked the turrett out radially. Also knocked the spindle out. We can fix that. There have been several instances that mentioned the wedge. Makes sense seeing as the ST30's are machined in place. Are there drawings available that shows the position of the wedge ? Or can anyone tell me the proximity of where it is located ?

The wedge is the angled casting that the turret box rides on. There is no set location it's mounted on top of your z-axis linear trucks. You end up removing a lot of sheet metal to gain access to all th bolts on the wedge. You square the wedge up to the spindle face. That's after you square up the spindle casting.the bolts on the spindle head castings are torqued to 450-600 ft lbs. which you will also have to remove a lot of sheet metal to gain access to those bolts as well.

Also, hopefully it wasn't too bad of a crash that it damaged your linear rails by bending it or it leaving heavy bal bearing indents in the rails.

How to check straitness of linear guides of this machine? The spindle centerline is not parallel to wedge motion on Z-axis in some places, I suppose the linear guides are not straight.

Haas sells a test bar that mounts to the spindle nose. That how you check the straightness of the spindle and the z rails.

Yes, but it is 300 or so mm long, and when I measuring in different places of Z-Axis, I determine different deviation. Is it possible to measure straightness of linear guides on all length?

Yes, remove wedge assembly off z-axis rails. Mount a indicator on top of one rail and tram them in to one another.

To make this I need disassemble machine almost completely(( In addition it's not small (ST-40)

Correct, call your local HFO and have a certified tech check the alignment.

One more question: is possible to compensate backlash on X-Axis of ST-40?
