Hey guys, Im fairly new to CNC and have been using Meshcam for my part files. One thing I have noticed about it is that the resolution seems to be low when importing a file. For example, I am doing a part that has a large curved section in it (x-y curve, not 3D), which looks fine in Autocad, but when I import it into Meshcam, the curve gets turned into a fairly low-resolution curve. As in, I can see the different "steps" taken to make the curve (the several straight sections making up the curve instead of one, smooth radius, hope that makes sense!). Is there a setting that can be changed somewhere that will allow greater resolution? Is that even the case here? It is causing my parts to come out with this "step" type curves instead of smooth lines. I have changed the steps/per on my motor driver settings, so its not that. Plus, I can visually see the problem in Meshcam, so im thinking thats the issue. Thanks in advance guys! |

| MeshCAM will show you the exact output from your CAD file with no visual smoothing at all. The likely problem is that Autocad has default export settings that do not convert the model to triangles with enough precision (or lines if you're using a 2D file). I am not an Autocad user so I can't tell you exactly where to look but there should be a tolerance setting somewhere that will cause Autocad to generate more accurate output files. -Robert

| If your model is a solid in AutoCAD, change the FACETRES variable to 10 before exporting.
