Part sources for drive installation (BOB, connectors etc)

Hi,

Since part numbers for VSD-A breakout board & other accessories are frequently requested, I decided to set up a new thread where everyone can post their findings once suitable parts are found. This will help others with the same problem.

All accessory parts & connectors in GD products are chosen so that they are commonly found even from smallest suppliers.

I'll begin by compiling a parts listing for VSD-A breakout board from Futurlec (which has been said to have low cost delivery all over the world).

BOB documentation: http://granitedevices.fi/assets/file...akout_rev2.zip

You may also use this list as reference for finding similar parts from other suppliers.

Connectors:
4pcs IDCMH10 http://futurlec.com/Connectors/IDCMH10.shtml
1pcs DSUBPCM25 http://futurlec.com/Connectors/DSUBPCM25.shtml
5pcs PCBT2 http://futurlec.com/Connectors/PCBT2.shtml
1pcs PUSB04 http://www.futurlec.com/Plugs/PUSB04.shtml

Semiconductors
1pcs 74LS08 http://www.futurlec.com/74LS/74LS08.shtml
4pcs 1N4148 http://www.futurlec.com/Diodes/1N4148.shtml
1pcs LED5R http://www.futurlec.com/LED/LED5R.shtml

Passives
2pcs C100UMC http://www.futurlec.com/Capacitors/C100UMC.shtml
1pcs C100U16E http://www.futurlec.com/Capacitors/C100U16E.shtml
Resistors, pick from this list http://www.futurlec.com/Res14W.shtml (5x 2200 ohm, 1x 470 ohm, 1x 10kohm).

You probably also want to buy IDC connectors for CMD and ENCODER ports. See these:
http://futurlec.com/Connectors/IDCC10.shtml
http://futurlec.com/Connectors/IDCC14.shtml
Just add ribbon cable in between:

Tero, here's a list of the connectors I used to install mine. People on the Mach list were asking about it.

Thought I'd add it to the list.

<snip from Mach3 list>
MSC10K-ND [one per drive- it's a 10pin IDA ribbon connector]
MSSR10-ND [Strain relief clip for abv connector]
MC10M -'x'-ND [10 cond. ribbon cable [multi colored] replace 'x' w/ 5,10,
25[feet] of cable]

MSC14K-ND [one per drive- it's a 14 pin IDA ribbon connector]
MSSR14-ND [Strain relief for abv connector]
MC14M-"x'-ND [14 cond. ribbon cable [multi colored] replace 'x' w/ 5,10,25[feet]
of cable]

WM23944-ND [one per drive Jumper/shunt for switching the drive from SPI to
step/dir- they are not included w/ the drive]

The strain relief many not be entirely nesc, but for the extra $0.26/each.. I
figured what the hey...

I used a sharp knife to split the ribbon cable at the end, then just strip it
and connect it to the screw term's on the BOB or
solder and heat shrink it to connect it to the encoder cable. It sounds teedious
and slow but it took me 2-3 hrs to put the whole drive together today and I'm
not fast at this stuff..

Btw, so far I've not had issue w/ the ribbon cable I bought and lost steps or
interferance from RF. Digikey also has a twisted pair or shielded ribbon cable
for those two are looking for a bit more protection, they can be found on pg 43
of the current [Canadian anyway] Cataloge. Part numbers for the twisted pair are
MC10F-'x'-ND or 14, the shielded is MB10H-'x'-ND [or 14]. I just noticed that
the twisted pair is actually cheaper than the stuff I bought [maybe 'cause it's
only just grey] while the shielded stuff is 2.5x more money..
<end snip>

Hope that helps, if I've got something that looks very wrong feel free to let me know.. so far it's working pretty well

Jerry
