Introducting the gorilla cnc

I purchased the gorilla cnc router dec 20/07 and have been slowly going through each type of cut i'm interested in.Its a 48x96x6inZ,mach3 operating bwc bearings oversized stepper motors open loop, bishop wisecarver bearings and rack and pinion power transmission with a bosch router 2.25 HP

I feel it is well built and so far i have no complaints.
The company was small but now have partnered up with GENERAL TOOLS so its bound to have changes .
I am still in the learning stages and it will take time to become comfortable and an expert

what controller are you using?, actually that does look like quite a capable machine!

how do you identify the controller?
Never any markings anyplace

I thought you were going to post some pictures of yours,i'm happy with my purchase just wish i could do more on the programing and my interests are the 3d stuff which if you buy the file it cuts it out.
I did the sea otters in butternut and its good

the controller is the type of software used to run the machine (mach3, wincnc) and should be identified when you open windows to operate the machine. do you have vcarve pro? or what type of software do you have to make files (programming) cut 3d will allow you to do 3d work and there is a free software available on vector art 3d.

actually i just saw the photo of your controller screen on your computer and i see it is mach 3!!

Yes I understand controller now ---i am mach3 and i purchased the complete vcarve software and its ok.
I also use corel draw 12,and i have tried several other cnc programs but they are to difficult unless you're into cad type software and use it frequently.
Where did you get the grape diagram it looks good and is that cherry you machined out.
And are you using carbide end mills
I also have several cad prgs but above my knowledge.
I have had good sucess in scanniong into corel ,cleaning the diag up and machining it

also i really like your vacuum setup was that expensive ?

the vacuum setup is the fein system widely explained on shopbots forum and works quite well 2 sheets of mdf for base 1 sheet for spoil board cost 666.00 us, 2 fien large vacuums (110 cfms each pulling 7 inches mercury) about 800.00, related pvc plumbing 125.00+/-

i do most every thing with vcarve and cut 3d, i have purchased several of dovers clip art books (15.00 ea.) and you can import all of this into vcarve and figure tool path from there.

the grape file is a gift from james booth at cut 3d and is a project we are working on together now that i am done with my part i am sure he will make it available on the vector art site.

if you look on vectrics forum the are a lot of free file shared on the cut 3d forum!!

Well, hello there!

My name is Rob, and I just bought a 4 x 8 Gorilla with a 3HP Elte spindle. I ordered proximity switches and feedback on the steppers. I tested it with some solid surface materials. Seems to work okay. I get delivery Nov 25. (08)
I get VCarve 4.6 and a few other programs, but I will likely reach deep in my (now empty) pockets and spring for ArtCam Enigma...or wait for Aspire. (To see if it does any nesting)
