I made some small optics and then decided to make a couple 10 times the size for demostration purposes (the small ones were just too small). First piccy is the front machining on the large component. Second piccy is two large ones with two small ones in between. Third piccy is the small ones with some grains of rice (no kidding) for a sense of scale. I must have dropped about 3 of the small ones and never did find them yet ![]() Iain. Gah- piccies too big to upload.. will shrink em... brb.

| Squished the photos- me mate that took the piccies used his super dooper camera with a gazillion pixel thingies. Damn, seem to have lost some edge definition, specialy in piccy 2.. never mind, I know they're beautiful

| Hehe, nope. That finish is exactly as it comes off my lathe. Also, the form of the lens (ie departure from perfect) is under one wavelength of light. So, on the large lens with a clear aperture of around 25mm dia, the departure from perfect profile across this 25mm dia is less than 633 nanometres (0.6 microns). Measured and traceable to National Standards. You can't physicaly see this in the pictures.. but I know it's there when I'm holding it in my hand ![]() I love making things ![]() [Edit]This piccy shows the optical finish better- the other ones had reflections off of the Clean Air Cabinet (that's a 5 pence piece on the right).
