Extending Milling Contours from Solid

Hello

Can anyone tell me why Gibbs is not extending the milling contour for "conventional milling" by using "entry and exit". It dose it climb milling with out a problem. I want the tool to plunge in air, not on the part. Using Gibbs 2007.

Thanks.

Here is a Zip file the the Gibbs Part. Operation #2 & 3 are the ones I am questioning. The part is Flame Cut so I want to "conventional mill" the part for better tool life.

Thanks again.

That is odd. One possibility could be the body itself. When I Unstitch the upper right corner, a large vertical planar face is also part of that plug.

Playing with tolerances and parameters didn't change anything, but you do have other options, better in my opinion.

1. Contour. Extract a line from the top edge and change the wall choice to a 10 deg side angle. Now you also have a choice of top down or bottom up machining.

2. Lace Cut. Do a standard Lace Cut and use Extend Strokes in the HSM plug-in to extend the start/exit.

Thanks for the Tip.

I couldn't get the Lace cut thing to work right. It seems like when I selcted Convential Mill, it would Climb cut and Vise versa. I also didn't like the fact if you "Redo" your OP, your have to go back in to the HSM plug to extend your contours again.

CadMan, Do you know a easy way to find the Wall angle? The only way I'm fimlar with is to creat a new CS and extract the Geo. and use the Dimention pallet. Seems like a lot of work just to find an angle.
