Hi .......Needs a 2 sentence of the elaboration over EDM terminology -


1. U & V Axis - I had a doubt that is the U & V axis at upper spool or lower one.

2. What is a skim cut in EDM......is it a cutting stroke in a different feed ( just like what in machining centre )

3. What is a slug in EDM -

4. What is chopper..I guess that is a method of cutting the wire...Why it is cut into pieces...Than by what method it is joined back .....Is it By some AFW term........What actually that term....

5. I will be very fortunate if anybody can let me know a program format of a wirecut machine ( also of a EDM Sinker machine )with description of the same.........

U is the upper guide travel in the same direction as the lower X travel
V is the upper guide travel in the same direction as the lower Y travel.

2. What is a skim cut in EDM......is it a cutting stroke in a different feed ( just like what in machining centre )
Skim cutting is a fine finishing cut to get a more accurate size and finish at a slower feed rate after a first cut has been performed leaving a small allowance to skim off.

3. What is a slug in EDM -
Slug is the lump that you cut out when the two ends of the path meet.

4. What is chopper..I guess that is a method of cutting the wire...Why it is cut into pieces...Than by what method it is joined back .....Is it By some AFW term........What actually that term....

well my wire eroder is programed in Fanuc code.
