    Shopper beware SDP-SI

I decided to write this so other don't get thru what I get right now.
I am talking about SPD/SI (www.sdp-si.com). You will be surprised that you will NOT find out the shipping charges until you receive your credit card statement. Your order before 12PM ET will NOT get ship the same day as the web site states - will ship the next day (my order was placed at 8AM). I placed an order over the phone on Dec 28th (Friday) and a VERY NASTY lady over the phone told me that she's not UPS to tell me how much will cost me for shipping and she's not sure if the order that I placed I will receive it before Friday (the 4th) - a week after. I ask her to ship 2nd day and she guarantee me that I'll receive it before or on Friday.
I did - was shipped and billed OVERNIGHT. Is just a shame seing practices like that these days where competition takes priority. Also, forget about trying to return something - you will never get an answer back from the customer service no matter what E-mail will use.
I wrote this because I saw them advertising here in this site. Maybe the sysadmin will take consideration of the satisfaction of the members.

About 15 years ago they sent a complee set of books and catalogs to the retail store I worked at. I've always kept the books as engineering references and when I got into cnc and rc hobbies I've placed a dozen or so small orders through their website. I've never had a problem , but then I've never had to call or ask for help. It would be nice if they could include shipping costs in their online orders.

Anymore I've given up on mail order anything that I can't order through a good website. Too many headset wearing idiots out there working 800 lines.

One of the reasons they can't calculate shipping real-time is that they don't stock a lot of the things in their catalog. They have the product drop shipped from the Mfg or a master distributor. I bought three items from them and all three came from different places and I paid shipping for each one. The total shipping was almost more than the cost of the parts! It was my first (and last) order to them. I think they are more a marketing and sales company than a distributor.

Well this is a case of "if not them....who?"

there are allot of suppliers of timing pulley's but not to many that will do smaller quantities. and they are convenient for most hobby people.

I buy most of mine from Musumi or bearing house suppliers as they seam to have such things in stock
    thanks

If I cannot get from a local supplier, I use Reid, or Misumi.
I have have fast efficient shipping with both, one advantage with Misumi is they offer a limited form of customization, like pulley boring, keyway's etc.

I have not had issues with http://www.sdp-si.com/. I have been using them for over 5 years without issue.
