    Talking Edm and Waterjet

    Mark,
    I must say impressive!!
I didn't know that waterjet cutting is so versatile. I've seen samples of it but it was metal.
What does your everyday work consist of, programming operating of the edms ?

    Klox,
Unfortunately in this job my colleague and myself only get to set and operate the WEDMs, although we have both programmed wirers before, our bosses like to do it (but they are thinking of letting us do it). Normally I will go into work, see what jobs the boss wants set up, sometimes we cut jobs that are too big to cut in one hit, so we will work out a way to do multiple setups on a job. we are currently running 2 machines on 370 hour
jobs and if successful we will have at least another 20 of the same type of job. (these jobs are up to 500mm in height, hence the skim cutting enquiry).
However I do program the waterjet machine myself, and as such have cut many different materials i.e. ceramic tiles (for mine and the bosses kitchens) various laminated materials, also glass, granite, plastics, hard and soft steel, basically anything you can think of!. Anything else you want to know, please ask!.
How about enlightening me on what you do daily? i I'm interested to know, also what is everybody else doing? WEDM, WJET, EDM etc...
    Mark...
    If in doubt ask!

    Talking The life of Klox

    Mark,
I'm doing all the small edm jobs the other big companies won't even bother to do. Then i do press tools for a company that manufactures clutch plates. It is sometimes a bit difficult as they supply me only with concept drawings and a minimum budget. Well one of the tools i did for them lasted just over 2 years before the operator wrecked it deliberately. Then i have a passion for flyfishing. I have designed and built my own bluewater reel. I even sold a few. I haven't had any comebacks thus far on any of them.
Then i do components for a guy that builds the most beautifull custom hunting rifles (mostly sights). The other day i did a falling block action(more or less on the Rigby theme) for him.(only the edmside).
I also do components for a company that manufactures automotive components, and another company that manufactures starters and altenators.
From time to time i do components for injection moulding but that is definitely not my turf.
I am actually an instrumentmaker by trade, but the last few years jobbing in this field have become a bit scarce.
Yes i do my own programming, my own operating of my edm, my own maintenance and cleaning and some conventional milling and turning in between.

    See you later....

    Howdy

27 Fanuc wires from 0B's to the new 1iBs, some have a rotary table for full burn and turn capabilities. Use Unigraphics to model and program with oh and PCfapt for difficult UV cuts

Do you perhaps have a website to check out? Tell me more on what you can do with the rotary table. What do you think about submersible versus flushing?

    See you....

    company work www.sodick.com

the main cad cam that i use is esprit or heart NC (sodicks own home brew cadcam) I also use feature cam some along with master cam and bobcad. As to what cad cam to use for what you are wanting to do G00 i have to ask what type of work are you planning to do. Is it going to be simple flat patterns or are you going to do solid modeling and 4 axis cut.

@sodickappsguy, well flat patterns for now, dies, punches, but ... the base slab of a die needs to be cut at an agle 2 release the pieces ... so i'll need 4 axis for that.but i can recive any kind of project on the future... i found a bobwire demo version but i foud it rather complicated at a first glimpse; i'm still a novice in G-code... 1 week more exactly
