    Old EDMs?

Hello all. I have a question that maybe some of the EDM experts on this forum could answer. What are the drawbacks of older EDM machines? I frequently go to machine tool auctions and see older EDM's going for next to nothing... I once saw a servicable looking unit for $50... and have seen dozens go for anywhere from 200 to 400. Most of these are ram EDM's. Are they just too hard to move for their age?

I would stay away of the "very old ones", say under 1980, anything over that could be OK for in house work. The old ones have allot of electrode wear and you just can't compete with the big boys!

I'm in the same boat, [have a old one too, under 1970] give allot of EDMing out, for wire & ram and the price is right.
