It has been done a few times with limited success. The cut parts tend to fall and often cause collision issues with moving parts of the machine. Gravity also affects the cut quality when the torch is perpendicular to the horizon.

Does anyone know of a vertical bed plasma cutter. I have a mate who wants to build one. He doesn't see his own limitations. Cheers.

Thanks Jim, It all makes sense. I would like him to make a small flatbed for himself and then build up to something that could earn him some revenue. He is a boilermaker by trade but is medically unfit for normal work duties. Cheers Kevin.
