I am new to CNC Zone and this is my first post. Where I work we have an FANUC ELOX-EDM Series L Wire Cut macine and has been inactive for about a year and a half now. I am wanting to get if fired up and running again. I do have the operators manual, maintenance booklet, and experience with CNC.
If you could just direct me with some tips or suggestions that would be excellent. Anyway Thanks for reading.
Getting started like this is rough. First hard lesson I learned was to ALWAYS write down your MACHINE POSITION! after you have set up and are ready to cut. With that you can always go back to the start position regardless what the program has on it's screen and start over as I had to do many times for lack of any other answers. This is a good web site but answers are not instant. Find a tech support # as I had to today and use it for quick answers. Lots of luck.
Regards
If the machine has been down that long the first thing to do is power it up and immediately - With power ON replace the batteries - Losing the Parameters is not fun. - Manuals are available from Fanuc - Read them.
First You should have started a new thread. You are stepping on MidWest here and his thread.
Look to see if there aren't any discs with software that need to be installed first. They may be what you need.
I am willing to bet that the mother board in your E.D.M. isn't much different then a typical computer mother board. That on that board there is a chip that contains the bios. Look for a rectangular chip about 1/2 to 5/8 long and about 5/16 wide it will have clear markings on it like a shiny sticker most popular Bios chips are either AWARD or PHOENIX and that is your bios chip. record any numbers on it and you can scan the web for free bios upgrades and match their offer with the chip you have and dn/ld it onto a floppy. This will work only if your floppy works on the E.D.M. with which you would up load the software from the floppy onto the machine.
Another way is to see the manufacture of the motherboard and see if they can't supply you with new bios software.
