    First cuts with Powermax 85

I ran 26 parts with the new machine tonight, 3/8 a36 plate, cut specs as per book. 85 amp. (I only have the nozzle and electrode that came with it as the dealer didn't have anything in stock! go figure!).
The only problem is the part doesn't cut completely on the lead out, it leaves a little tail to break off. I'll work on that tomorrow.

    First impression is good!
Kerf angle is nil, almost no dross on most parts.

I have an order for 200 3/8" parts and some 1/4" stuff this week so it will get a good test.

Very glad to hear your first impression. The cuts look good for out of the box cuts. How does the new conical flow sound/look when cutting? From the pics the angularity thing looks better than the T100 running 60amp on 3/8". Against your A120, how does it look?

    Very envious,

    tinman13,

Glad to hear your Powermax 85 is up and running good. Please keep us updated as you get the machine dialed in. Your cuts look great. I ordered an 85 yesterday and hopefully I will get mine as quickly as you received your's. I was comparing the recommended cut speeds differences between the 85 and my Powermax 1250 I sold and the 85 appears to cut about 20% faster.

    tinman13,

A 2nd thought, I hope the Powermax 85 consumables are not as hard to get as the Powermax 85 machine is..........

A little fuel to the fire.
126 parts, 504 pierces, 3/8", a36, 65 amps. Cut specs straight out of the book. The last part looks as good or better than the first!

Sorry but the a120 wouldn't produce the cut quality and life I am seeing here........ I hope it lasts!

I couldn't get pictures to load tonight.... Maybe later.

    Todays update..........
216 3/8 a36 parts, 864 pierces, 65 amp. Last part looks as good or better than the first one! No kidding!

Yes Bill, that is a big grin!

As I remember with the a120 the best run was around 275 or so pierces and then the electrode was done. The hafnium turned into nun-miem and shot out of the nozzle!
