hello
have a look at the other japax posts to sort the disk copy problem
i have done one about how to copy disks
i have had the same idea about usb to floppy disk plug but could never find a computer wiz to help me!!
I have an old Japax ELVY Wire EDM machine and I am having difficulty loading the operating system from the floppy disks. I think the disks are worn out and I need some help.
Does anyone have one of these old machines and if so is it possible to duplicate the operating system onto a new floppy ?. I would be grateful for any help in understanding the old computer. It is an NEC FC9801 and the floppy disk drives are external. The system uses a very strange format and the disk drives run at 360rpm not the usual 300rpm of a modern PC.
Alternatively, I would like to do away with the floppies altogether and use an emulator such as a USB to floppy box. Has anyone done this conversion ?
Chris

I´ve bought a machine a long time ago, however i´ve nerver started it because i don´t have any manuals.
The CNC numeric is japax4gv.
Can anyone send me copies of manuals to this machine?
Thank you very much!
Vector,
The computer in that machine is a Japan spec computer. Years ago there wasnt a standard for computers so that is why there is differences. You can copy the disk with a Standard PC if it is like the Older Sodicks (should be). You have to format the Disk to a 720k format. You should be able to do that by taping over the hole on the corner of the floppy. If that doesnt work there are several free programs out there that will format to whatever you would like. I go to downloads dot com to look for freeware.
