Stewey,
Glad to see you found a "Brad Point Bits" round over bits. Be carefu lwith that little point it's deliclate. This type of bit is also difficult to find over here as well. Please let us know how it works out.
Big-Tex,
I'd be glad to demo a little Sculpt Nouveau. It's a regular technique in my shop, allowing us to offer antiqued metalized lettering and Plaques. Rather than describe the process, I think a little picture show would be best. This may take a few days to get ready. Thanks for the phone calls. It's alwyas to good to talk to route pro's.

Joe, when you rebate the base, to take the letters after it's all been painted, what sized gap do you allow between the two parts?
Joe I am working on project to simulate sandblasted wood grain.
As per our conversation routed background is sandblasted using wire frame at present in various materials. If my idea works it would be easy and fast to do same on router, as we all know we work with rotary tools and I do have that under consideration.
What you may help me with is post picture of grain you would be happy with and depth between hard and soft grain in wood.Another words how deep are ridges in sandblasted background.

Perhaps you could send me an E-mail link and I'll send a JPG or two which is full size.

what cad software did you use for this? IT looks amazing. We have a K2 machine here and use vectric software. The 3D lettering looks great.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks,
Nope, no 3D on my the sign. Just plain 2.5 on the letters.
Joe
Woops, I made a mistake.
The letters were done with a 1/4" round over bit. It's not even 2.5D as I stated. Anyone can make letters this way. It's one of my favorite techniques. Don't know why more of this isn't done more. To enhance the effect, a small pocket to house the letters sets them off. I leave a small gap around the letters which shows they are inset.

Joe just ordered some round over bits and they are on.the way.
Just for testing how compraable is Extira to MFD?
I have plenty of drops of MDF and can do testing and painting not to mention free sample material, this will never be outside exposed to elements. Designs are mostly done. One thing that I may lack are some finishing touches as ornaments or borders. Golden era collection will have to wait. Unless there is some stuff for free downloads that you know of.
Yes I agree this method is simple and fast you know my opinion. This is inlay option in ArtCAm and for slack allowance is used. What depth are your pockets in general, I know that purpose is to use them for layout and better mounting also easy finishing.
I would rather do job the easy way, collect and get a cold one( I think I may use it for my signature..............)
