    V Carve Sign Software

    Hi,

I'm in the process of building my first machine. I've got the bed done, but I'm waiting on bearings and electronics. So with this time I'm looking into what software I'm going to be using to make signs.

The first signs that I plan to make use a V carved lettering. I'll expand my horizons from there. So my main question is, what software does everyone recommend for lettering?

If I have to go to Aspire or VCarve, I will, but I'm hoping that someone has some info on a freebie, or cheaper way to go. I have no software at this time, nothing, so I'm starting fresh. So any direction on what I need and where to get it would be appreciated.

I'm glad to see a sign making forum added here.

    Thanks,

    KAW

I can't suggest any software other than VcarvePro, a few years ago when I first started I stopped looking after playing with the demo version of VcarvePro for about 30 minutes and bought it. Have never regretted the purchase. Short learning curve, and ease of use makes it a leader even when compared with CAD/CAM costing many $$ more.

I have not involvement with Vectric other than being a very stratified user of their software.

V-Carve Pro for sign making. Nothing else compares.
I have V-Carve Pro, Cut 2D and Photo V-Carve from Vectric. Love all of them. Simple but powerful programs with very short learning curves.

    I Also have:
    Solidworks Premium 2009
    Mastercam X3
    AlibrePro with AlibreCam

I also have just about every freeware cad/cam and graphics package available. After working with them for a while, you will understand why they are freeware!

Look into Cut3D and Aspire for 3D modeling, but you might find all the 3D models you need on sites like Vector Art 3D.

For sign making, you won't be disappointed with V-Carve Pro.

Make sure you also get Mach3 to run your cnc - about $175 but will save you all the headaches using cheaper or freeware programs, plus it's fully compatible with Vectric software.

Continuing with "free" software, check out CNC4Free:

All the best free stuff is there, as well as an excellent set of tutorials which will help you with whatever software you end up with.

    Good luck!
