    HELP! Homework help!

Hello, I'm working on my homework for an on line blueprint reading class and am stumped. E-mailing the teacher takes too long and I want to get this done tonight.

I'm working on a chart for classes of fits and the chart says "Values Shown are in thousands of an inch" but they are listed like this. Clearance .3 to 1.3 Does this mean .003 to .013? Or .003 to .0013? Or .0003 to .0013

    Your help is really appreciated!

    Thanks, Dale P.

Lets say I was talking in millions of dollars.
If I say .3 million, how much is that?
    .3 x 1,000,000 = 300,000
    and 1.3 million?
    1.3 x 1,000,000 = 1,300,000

So I am guessing your chart actually says "...in thousandths of an inch"

    How big is .3 thousandths?
    .3 x .001 = .0003
    likewise
    1.3 x .001 = .0013

    Hi ibuildstuff4u

.3 is .300 hundreds of an inch, 1.300 is 1inch 300 hundreds, That is very a very big clearance value

.003 is 3 thousands of an inch

If your chart is in thousands then .3 thousand is .0003 & 1.3 thousand .0013

Where is the problem? The chart says "Values Shown are in thousands of an inch"

    A value of 1 is 1 thousand of an inch, i.e. 0.001"

    A value of 10 is 10 thousands of an inch, i.e. 0.010"

    A value of 0.1 is 0.1 thousands of an inch, i.e. 0.0001"

The only error is grammatical not metrological; it should be thousandths, not thousands.

Thanks guys, thats what I was thinking, but after 10 hours of work and three more hours working on home work my brain is starting to turn to mush.

Night school is starting to take it's toll.

Thanks again for the help guys!!!

Come on, thirty years ago (and more) I could do eight hours in college, 7-1/2hours on afternoon shift, and then spend three hours rewriting my lecture notes; the other five and a half hours in the day I spent sleeping.

I have no idea how I survived that sort of regime, but I did for 8 months.

What, no drinking, girls and motorcycles?

    You slept WAY too much.
