I tried out a 3/4 x 90 carbide drill mill today on some copper parts. Im using it to spot 12mm holes deep enough to leave the desired chamfer after drilling, which is .030" for a chamfer diameter of .532 First I programmed the drill mill like a regular 3/4 hss spot drill with a G73 cycle, I usually program one peck deep enough to leave a .010" finish peck it didn't like it at all, the finish peck sounded real bad, and it tore the material leaving a nasty rim around the drilled hole, I couldnt even measure it with the chamfer guage. This was at S2000 F20., the same rates I was using with the hss spot drill, flood coolant (newly replaced) I finally got the spot to come out looking good, but it still sounds bad. This is with a G1 plunge to finish depth at S5000 F15. Im worried about tool life and would appreciate any advise on these tools which are new to me. |
