Using Zn or Zc in feed calc. | | Could someone tell me when you use number of teeth or number of effective teeth in a feed calculation?
Is it correct to say if I am shoulder machining with a tool with 2 faces then I can use Z = 2 but if I use the same tool to mill a channel I should use Z=1.
I'm a bit confused. How does one calculate Zc for varying radial thickness of cut?
Was machining my block of stainless today and there was a bit of high pitched noise. Normally I would lower the rpm or raise the feed but I was worried about breaking the tool. In the end I stopped and reduced the DOC and it was okay. The DOC was well below what the manufacturer speced so I'm wondering if it is a problem with my feed.
0.5" carbide with coolant.
5" IPM
1000 rpm.
Noise was from shoulder cut of 1/8" wide X 1/2" DOC
Okay when reduced to 3/8" DOC.
Manufacturer spec 1/8" X 11/16".
Set up was good, no major overhang and well clamped. Tool is new. A bit of vibration could be felt on the machine which was why I didn't want to push it further.
Cheers,
