I am making a camera and I need to make a part as rigid as possible (no flex). The rest of the camera is made of 260 brass which is not rigid enough for this part. What suggestions would you have for a metal/alloy that is more rigid then C260 brass? Due to aesthetics, it would be great if the color of the metal was as close as possible to 260 brass but I'll take any suggestions. Thank you. |

| Steel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young's_modulus Brass and Bronze are about 17 MPSI. Steel is nearly double that at 29MPSI. It is not hard to copper plate steel, if that helps the asthetics. Beyond that things get exotic. Carbide is about twice as stiff as steel.

| to add to that, go with a free machining stainless steel.....not hard to make stainless and brass ascetically pleasing . is it a reproduction or can you design in stiffness, ie boxes, girders etc. stiffness to weight with these fabrications will be much better than a solid bar |
