I am new to this site....I am tapping through aluminum. I am tapping a 2.5mm hole using an M3x.5mm tap. I have the speed at 200 and the feed at 6.2. What would the correct speed and feed be? Thanks |

| You can spin it faster, at some point your control may not be able to keep the spindle and Z axis in sync and you will start getting bad threads. The only way to find out is to try it. If you feed a tap at anything other the lead of the thread and you will not get the threads you are expecting. |

| Let's start by giving us some more data: Is this machine a lathe or mill or mill/turn? Do you have ridgid tap function? Is it a thru-hole or blind hole? What type of tap are you using; carbide,HSS,spiral, bott, etc? How many holes per part? How many parts total? Tapping is one of those processes that you must weigh all variables in order to achieve desirable results. Proper set-up is absolutely critical if you are tapping a production run. |
