Anybody ever make a Large Caliper for measuring items 72" apart? Drawing showing an Aluminum caliper with fine adjust. 1/10" scale and maybe a vernier engraved on it to measure 0.01" But the caliper would be set to say a 6ft Starrett ruler and because attached to it would be a 6" Digital caliper spring loaded you could measure within 6" to the ruler it was zeroed too. For example 30" set to 24" and 6" ruler end to end Or 76" using 72" ruler and 4" gage block end to end. I am not counting on the Aluminum vernier scale more than 0.01" as at different temperatures it would need to be checked on how much it was too long or too short. If it repeats to within 0.005" I will be happy. What I want to measure needs caliper jaws that reach at least 6". Yes I could buy one but my plan is to make one for less than $100 including the metal. |
