Hi . I need to slit fins with a 2.00 O.D .032 thk slitter blade in Class 1 copper (99.9%cu) barstock . The depth of cut will be .325 My question is should I run a fine 150 tooth or course 60 tooth cutter, and what Rpm/Fps I should try with each. Thanks in advance. |

| I would go for the low tooth count because the chips tend to curl up and bind. For speed something like 200 rpm, possibly if things go okay you can boost it. For feed something like 2 IPM to start and if things go okay also move this up. For lubricant try things like tap-magic; copper often tends to be gummy.

Lower tooth than what you said, treat it like aluminum. We slit .012 thick all the time and the key to it is the holder. Support the blade as much as you can, we build all of our own holders for saw slitting. You want to make a holder that leaves about .100 - .150 of the blade exposed. and then taper down to your shaft size for your holder, almost looks like a pedestal, then just make the other side as a flat cup to hold the blade from slipping. PM me and i can send a pic of what i am talking about. We run 5" blades .032 thick at 1800 rpm and 23 ipm with oil do not use coolant use good way lube oil. if you PM me i can send the info for the oil as well. Helmut Jr |

| Darn it ,I new I should have checked back... I ordered some 110 tooth cutters this afternoon,Oh well. I'll order some course tooth ones tomorrow. Thanks for the speed/feed info geoff. As far as the arbor goes I made a few today. It was fun running turning operations on my mill, never had a chance to try that before only had to scrap the first piece |
