I am looking for ER style collets with the no pullout pin. One factory I working in used them extensively however I cannot find them in general tooling catalogs. Am I missing something? I do find them commonly in the TG style. Makes me wounder if the ER style is the preferred style collet for general CNC work. I am tooling a new Hass VMC. Any opinions? Lee |

| ER collets and chucks are popular because of their high accuracy/concentricity, wide gripping range, and relative low cost. But the 8 degree taper that gives them great range also decreases gripping length and force. ER collets with pins (as well as ER tapping collets) tend to be quite a bit more expensive than standard ER collets, hence their lack of popularity. For heavy cutting with endmills 1/2" diameter or larger, a standard endmill holder is often the better choice. If higher concentricity is required, a milling chuck can be used. - Glacern Machine Tools www.glacern.com Last edited by Glacern; 08-13-2009 at 05:47 AM. |

Thank you for that info. It is this type of general background information I like. Now, to continue the thought, I have found the TG series in no pull out style. I am getting a new VMC and will have a few solid end mill holders. However, I am not a production facility and find myself with many odd sizes so I will need to decide on some sort of collet style to use. So, for end mills where I do not have a solid style holder do you think that the TG series is a worth while investment? |

| Have you been having issues with tools pulling in your collets? I find it very rare to get pull with ER collets. I definitely do not recommend DA style for heavy(ish) work. There is nothing wrong with TG, they just aren't as popular and don't have a 1/32 grip range. All it takes is a few solid holders to go along with your ER set to use when really heavy cutting is desired.
