Not sure what you mean by "material is 0.060" if you have a "1.200 height."

What are your stock dimensions, and final part dimensions?

Collets are always better than jaws.
Are you making these from solid or tube? If tube then I would plug or ring where clamping.

sorry for the late reply but I am making them out of tubing.
and also .060 means material thickness. 1.200 means the height of the part.
and I would think that turning would be the way to go

I guess I'm missing something you have an OD of 3 inches and an ID of 2 inches and a thickness of 0.060 inches....must be some modern math...

I agree with you ViperTX. It does not make sense.

You sound like an Instrument Maker for a University. Some researcher needs something special and wants you to solve the problem for him/her. I would first nail down all the variables so you know when you are finished and can deliver the best product. First to come to mind are finish and concentricity. The copper is going to distort in a collet. I would make a heavy wall jig out of steel and press the work stock into it. This can be chucked in a 6 jaw universal or 4 jaw independent, depending on your school of training. Light cuts and the job should not take too much at all. Be sure to make a close tolerance plug jig for pushing the part out.

Yes, there are other ways but sometimes spending the time on a jig works out best in the long run.

That is my 2 cents worth,

Lee

thanks for the replies I should try that jig chuck and take a couple of passes hopefuly that should give me the close tollerances that I need.
