I need to cut/trim some 5/8, .045 wall SS tubing to length. The pieces are rough cut to size with one end squared. I need to cut/trim the tubung to length with .010". Is there a way to install a stop inside the spindle and use an adjustable carriage stop to do this? |

| Do you have access to the end of the spindle? One way to make a simple stop is make a cap with a hole through it, that fits over the end of the spindle and is secured by three setscrews. Then run a length of threaded rod through the hole and have a plug screwed on this rod inside the spindle and just adjust it to the correct position and secure it with a nut either side of the end cap. Just remember to cut off any excess threaded rod wagging about at the end of the spindle and make a bit of a guard.

| You did not mention if this was CNC or manual, the principal many of the tube cut-off machines work, is a bar feeder arrangement feed the tube through the chuck to a programmable stop, when the chuck closes, the stop backs off to allow the tube to rotate and be cut. This is assuming you have full length material to be cut into short lengths. I just completed a retro-fit of an old Modern Tube cut-off that uses this method. Al.

| If you are using standard soft jaws you can drill and tap a hole in the back of one of the jaws and insert a threaded rod. Tap a small piece of flat stock for the adjustable stop. It may be a cheap simple solution, but it has worked just fine for me. |
