Being new the CNC scene, I have a question about how to bore a certain area. I have an aluminum block with a 1.5" dia hole at 4" deep. I have to cut a 1/8" x 1/8" deep groove into the inside of the cylinder near the base. On a lathe, you would just use a boring tool to reach into the cylinder to cut this. On a CNC machine I am having a mental block as to how to cut this. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom |

| You say you are new to CNC; have you done programs with circular interpolation (G03) and tool compensation (G41)? It is possible to use a lathe grooving tool in the mill to cut an internal groove; slow but possible using G03 with tool compensation. If you are comfortable with circular interpolation and tool comp and have a boring tool and a collet that will hold it I can take you through the procedure.
