OK, you may need to be over 40 years old to help with this. I am looking for a roller box tool. I last used one in the 70's. They were used on screw machines and turret lathes to turn long, small OD's. It basically was a tool that incorporated two rollers, which worked as follow rests, and a cutting tool all in a integrated tool holder. I can't find a supplier. Any help would be appreciated. John |

| Hi John, what diams are you intending to use it for, and what is your mounting type? I have an old 1-1/4" Taylor capstan lathe that I retained after I retired from active machining, and it has 1-1/4" diam bar turning capacity, so depending on your lathe's capacity that is the size of roller box tool you'll need. The other thing is the mounting spigot diam that goes into the turret. The roller box tools I have, have got a 1" and a 1-1/2" diam parallel shank, so if you are in the market for something like this, then that is what you are going to look for. Price wise is dependent on the seller, but I paid $150 second hand for one of the boxes on Ebay a couple of years back, and they still come up from time to time. Your biggest problem is to get the cutting tool, but if you know the point geometry it's a piece of cake to hand grind one. If you need a photo of the box or the cutting tool I'll dig it out and post one. Ian. |

| John I got 45 yrs and remember the Brown & Sharpe box tools we used on our lathes. I was looking for one to turn .110 dia on some Titanium and found some on Ebay under "Hollow Mills". I also found a company called "Geneseemfg.com", they have a newer style box tool that I bought since the used B&S box tools were about the same price. Since I bought the first one I have bought 2 more and now can turn from 0 to 3/8, they are adjustable and very precise. Bob |
