ToughMet and Coated Carbides

Recently, I got some new material to play with. ToughMet 3 made by
BrushWellman. It's a copper/nickel/tin alloy.

I looked up speeds and feeds from the manufacturer but was not provided with the best coating on carbides to use in turning and milling. We have TiN, TiCN and TiAlN in the shop but I'd rather not do trial and error.

If anyone has worked with this material before quite a lot, I would like to know the best coating on tools to use as well as links to places that provide better speed and feed charts based on those coatings.

Thx.
Frank

Still looking at coatings

So far Tough Met and the manufacturer of it has provided me with a great many answers. Yet none from this board!

It appears hard materials like carbides work. Since it's soft and tough like Aluminium. I've tried coated carbides with a higher rake angles with much success for milling. (carbides meant for aluminum). It is possible to get PCD coatings which are Poly Crystalline Diamond Coatings but I only have a small lot of 180 pieces.

I thank this board for trying to get me some advice but I see I'm already becoming a master with ToughMet due to the low number of replies. You are free to ask me more questions about Tough Met. Drilling , tapping and reaming this **** is problem. All of that we have solved. I simply was looking here at doing things faster.

It's past Christmas so Happy New Year Guys.
