Would anyone have any case studies or information for process controls for precision machining. We have applications were the tolerances are +/-.0003", but there are no different controls than cutting to +/-.010". As a result we have higher scrap for those parts with tighter tolerances.
I would be interested in any info you may have. I have read a bit on thermal error. I have read on thermal error compensation and also temperature control of hydraulic oil and coolant. Any success stories on retrofitting existing equipment for thermal control would be of special interest along with specific maintenance requirements.
Thanks!
What are you machining, And what are you holding. Dia? Flatness? roundness? Profile??. That make a huge diference I have aluminum housiongs that I hold flatness to .009mic and roundness to .009. Also some tight bore tolernces.
