I have a run of 50 parts 2 x 3 all outside contours - I have an uncoated 4 fl hss roughing mill that i am using to +.005.. All finish cuts are done with a .500 4 flt carbide ticn coated .500 loc endmill .. Can anyone recommend speeds feeds and depth of cuts. As long as I do not use more than 2 of the finish mills for this project the boss will be happy.. currently each part is taking 10 - 12 min , I would like to get it down to around 6 or so. thanks to everyone that responds.. |

Hi Erik, I am running some parts in 303, I am using a 5/16 " 5flute Niagara ALTIAN coated 45degree cutter. I am doing pocketing, but I can cut full width .1" deep. 11"/min @ 5000rpm. ( DO NOT AlLLOW THE CUTTER TO RUN EVEN SLIGHTLY DRY!) My machine is a 1986 small Leadwell so If you are using a VF4 you could probably get those parts done in a lot less time with these as your rougher. Use a cutter with a 30 degree helix for finishing and your parts will look great. Hope that helps, Cutmore |
