I'm new to this site, somewhat new to the CNC scene. Our company just bought a new VCM 1020 Machining Center. We've setup & run a few jobs with out problems. We've got a new Mitsubishi asx445 shell mill which uses 4 inserts & I'm kind of unfamiliar with these. I'm trying to skim cut .005 from mild steel and I can't get a decent finish. I'm using vp15tf carbide inserts and running dry which their book recommends at a speed of 752 and a feed of 90.0. Can anyone help me figure this out? |

| I've run that tool quite a bit, with a mix of results depending on how I'm using it...perhaps I can help. A couple questions for you: 1. What is the diameter of the tool? 2. I'm not familiar with that machine...who is the builder? What is the spindle taper size and drawbar retention force? |

| just my opinion but I have had the best results with SANDVIK R390 2" face mill with .032 nose radius. we have eliminated grinding on many details. I have used dozens of others and always go back. I am NOT a SANDVIK salesman, |
