My CNC Mill...Finished at last!!! (pics, vid) | | I have finally finished my CNC Milling machine. It was made primarily with aluminum milling in mind, but I will cut machine wax, plastic, and wood at times too. For now, I don't have the guts to cut metal yet until I gain more experience with the soft materials like the machine wax and butter-cut (tm).
It cut perfect circles on this first part. And using my micrometer each measurement was dead on at 1/100th of a mm (to my surprise really). What a nice feeling when your 30mm hole shows 30.00 on the micrometer!
My website briefs the construction: http://www.colinmackenzie.net/index....neral&Itemid=4
And there is a youtube video:
I probably spend about 1900$ when all was said and done. See the tech table listed on my web site. I didn't have much machining experience, a lot of software and electronics experience only. However, making my own cnc mill was a great learning experience. Now I understand! I have always wanted a CNC machine mostly to make robotic parts. Eventually I will add a 4th and 5th axis to this machine or possibly start a new machine design.
