Tapping CR1018

Hi guys,
We just got a job that involves tapping 1/4" deep into CR1018. The threads will be #5-40 and #6-32. Would you use a forming tap for this case or a plain tap?

The choice is yours. If you are looking for production use a form tap, possibly even a carbide form tap!

forming tap would probably be stronger and last longer at those sizes,just remember too use the correct drill size. 1018 is easy too work with,so just go for whatever is cheaper. Are they thru holes?

Thanks guys. They are thru holes. I'll start with regular taps for now and see how it goes.

In thru holes I would use spiral point HSS taps and Tapmatic fluid and you will get a superior thread.
