Talking Finally found the Bearsh*t

In case any of you have ever wondered what the trade name for bearsh*t is, it's called Babbitrite or Babbit Damming Compound. The Old School machinists will know what I'm talking about. For those of you that don't, this stuff is used for vibration dampening thin wall or chatter prone parts. I thought this might be helpful as I've been looking for this stuff for a looong time but never knew the proper name and I've talked to many machinists that have been looking for it forever. It's available through McMaster-Carr as "casting retainer putty" or through Rotomet at the following link http://rotometals.3dcartstores.com/R...p_24-1732.html
It's a vomit-green looking play-doh like compound with impregnated fibers, hence the name, but it's good stuff.

Hope this helps....Enjoy!

BEARS**T

Check with your local bearing supplier (Applied Industrial, Kaman, Motion, etc.) found in the yellow pages under "Industrial Equipment" Not all stores have it on the shelf, but they can get it for you.(And yes, they should know what you are talking about.)
