I picked up a box O' junk at an auction. It had a couple draw knives, some taps, and this?... what is it? It says A.O. Edwards on the bottom.

Thats a tough one. I tried searching in google but incidentally there's a person named A.O. Edwards(Doctor?) who pops up a whole lot. I also saw a reference to defense contracts http://www.governmentcontractswon.co...8831.asp?yr=07
for Edwards AO.

My best guess is it's a clamp of some kind.

Maybe a straight edge for scribing a line on the centerline of a shaft ???

Could be used to gage the straightness of a shaft, or used as a Go/No GO gage.

Could be. I found a reference to a Tony (A.O.) Edwards regarding Winchester rifles ? Maybe something to do with gunmaking?
