Metallizing is spraying molten metal on a part to build it up or coat it. One can spray a hard metal over a softer one, spray zinc on to steel (for rusting proofing), etc. Seems very useful. Commercial system are expensive. But it seems like it would be easy enough to make one. An arc spray system feeds two arcing wires into a jet of compressed air that blasts it onto the surface. Perhaps one could take a couple of MIG welders and make a gun to feed the two wires together and provide the air jet. Has anyone looked at a low cost DIY metallizing? |
