Hey guys, Having a little bit of a problem with one of my lathes that has an "S" style pullback chuck. I have completely torn the chuck down all the way to the spindle and still cannot figure this out. The spindle is running true so I know its not the machine. The chuck itself has about .0004" runout which is acceptable considering the age of the chuck. But when I put the master collet and the pads in, a gage pin is inconsistantly reading anywhere from .0015" - .008" runout. I have checked and rechecked for any debris and made sure all the mating surfaces are cleaned. Everytime I open and close the chuck, Im getting a different runout reading. I have changed out the pads and used different sizes all with the same outcome. Do I need a new master collet? I am currently waiting to hear back from Hardinge. |
