Long tool. Speed and feeds recommendations

Hi guys,
I'm in a tough spot right now. I'm tryning to machine a 2.000 counter bore, 2.5 deep. The C'bore seats on the bottom of a part 5.500 tall. Therefore the end mill sticks out 5.625' out of the endmill holder. I'm using a 1.000' indexible end mill. The shattering is too much and the finish is very bad. Here's my current S&F:

S: 2750
F: 10.0
Axial depth: .120
Radial depth: .875

You don't say what the material is but just cut your numbers in half,or just start by slowing your speed, sounds like the tool needs more of a bite.Oh and thats not a long tool by any means, just today was working with a two foot core drill and borring bar.

thanks fuzzy. I forgot to mention it's aluminum. After some trial and error I changed to the following:

S 3500
F 36.
Axial depth: .046
Radial: (same) .875

yeah I'm using more depth cuts but I increased my feed so it's about the same cutting time as the previous confuguration.

I'm sure in the future where gonna start buying bigger and longer tools. My bosses are seeing the diference.
Thanks again.

P.S.What 67? a VW bug?
