I just bought a 4 x 6 harbor freight Band saw and decided to clean the machine before use. Another guy recommended to clean out the gear box. So I did, but now I need to know what kind of oil to use in the gear box ? I have the Mobil Vactra No. 2 - 4-way oil lubricant, but wasn't sure this was ok to use ? |

| If the gearbox uses a worm gear, I'd go with 90W Gear oil. The way lube would probably also work fine, as it's a formulation of a HP gear oil with an additive that makes it sticky. The downside is that more heat will be generated. At the end of the day, you could probably get away with banana peels for lubrication...... PS I think the advice was well intentioned, but misguided.Would you change the oil in the differential of a brand new car? (if ever). regards
