Hi , does anyone have experience milling 416 stainless plate. I need to make a one-off part and can't afford to mess up. I need to reduce from 1/2 thick to 3/8 thick. Does it work harden when milling? 3 inch face mill, 5 inserts kennametal 720 grade, speed, feed, depth of cut ,dry or coolant width of cut? I also need to drill (60) .059 dia holes .085 deep in this part. Speed ,feed, cutting oil or coolant ? Any tips anybody has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lex |

| 416 isn't that bad to cut as far as stainless goes. I've never had it workharden (at least not like 304 or 316 will) Treat it like a piece of 4140 and you should be fine.
