Found this link http://www.lathes.co.uk/latheparts/page11.html

Seems my lathe has a Lathe Spindle Nose Fitting German Standard Spindle Noses Short taper with Bolt or Stud Fixing Forms A and B Din 55021.

Will now cross reference to see if mine has any of these measurements

Here are a few other types of Lathe Spindle Nose & Backplate Fittings
http://www.lathes.co.uk/latheparts/page8.html

SPINDLE NOSE FITTINGS
American long Taper with Drive Key and Draw-nut Types L00, L0, L1, L2 and L3
AMERICAN STANDARD SPINDLE NOSES - Direct Mounting
American short Taper with Bolt or Stud Fixing Types A1, A2, B1 and B2
American short Taper with Camlock Fitting Type D1
British and ISO Standard Spindle Noses - Direct Mounting
British & ISO Short Taper with Bolt or Stud Fixing
British & ISO Short Taper with Camlock Fixing
British & ISO short Taper with Bayonet Ring Fixing
German Standard Spindle Noses

BACKPLATE FITTINGS

American Long Taper L Types L00, L1, L2 and L3
Short Taper A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2, with Bayonet

Might help someone else if they are trying to determine the style of their lathes backing plate pattern.

If anyone finds an other different styles just post a link for others to use and share information

Hi FPV, this looks like the chuck fitting we had in the 50's on a VDF German lathe.

The lathe spindle had a loose collar behind the mounting boss and the chuck had studs with nuts and washers in the back.

To mount the chuck you put the chuck against the mounting boss and entered the studs with nuts and washers attached through the holes.

The loose collar was rotated to bring the slotted holes round and the nuts tightend up.

The last photo in post #1 shows a slotted collar at the back of the mounting boss and if this is loose then this is what the nuts will tighten up to when the collar is rotated.

The mounting boss has a slightly tapered spigot on the front face that locates the chuck for concentricity.

Hope this is of use to you.
Ian.

hi

Thanks Ian any help is appreciated , the problem is there are so many verities of the lathe spindle nose flanges ( back plates , mounting plates , spindle nose fittings ....... etc )

Just found some more information http://workholding.com/BISONADOBEPAGELIST.htm

it is defiantly this one, German Standards Din 55027 spindle type " C " and judging from the spec sheet mine is a C-6 series , Even in the C-6 style there are a few differant types, the last picture on this pages link. http://workholding.com/BISON-SPINDLE...-L-THD-DIN.htm

This spindle nose is provided with a short tapered flange , like the American spindle nose A and D . Spindle flange has a number of mounting holes ( 3,4 or 6 ) into which the lock studs of the chuck can be inserted and locked

Hi

Since their in AUstralia these guys from www.dimac.com.au , I just spoke to the guys there and describe my lathes spindle mounting pattern and I think we were on the same wavelength and understood each other.

Mr Dimac asked questions and I gave answers and he come up with a Bayonet style backing plate B type and said a B1/6 actually.

Once again different terminology was used to describe the spindle back plate that I need as apposed to what I have located on the internet.

They said they would get back to me , no time frame just said he would get one of the sales team to work it out and get back to me if there available the backing plates.

As I'm going to adapter a 3 and a 4 jaw chucks that I already have the plates were going to be a universal style at the front which i will finish of mounting to different chucks flanges.

The critical part of the spindle mount plate is the lathe sided at this stage.

If no luck locating what I need , I have been drawing and made a spec sheet of my lathe and the two chucks I have ready to mount on the lathe. I will just have to machine my own two units from scratch time consuming.

Start of with a 40mm thick 300mm by 300mm square plate and start machining. Would be great if I can just buy of the shelve adapters save sometime.

Don't you just hate it when people dismantle equipment and fail too leave what comes with the equipment standard with it when a buy makes a purchase. Some people have no fggen idea. Sorry for the bad language just letting of some steam.
Let see what happens.

cheers
