Cnc production at home

Hey guys,

I'm planning on starting my own machining company and have a few issues...
Any replies are greatly appreciated...

I've been Cnc machining for the past 12 years in Oil/Gas/Mining. To cut a long story short, I want to set up my own small business and work for myself.
I'm looking into buying a used lathe to start, mabe Okuma LB300 or similar. I have the customers and the work available, but no workshop!
I've looked into renting industrial space but dont think I'll be able to afford it for a while.
I may have access to a garage/workshop at the back of a friends house, does anyone have any advice on setting up at home? There's a 3 phase supply to the garage, thats about all I'm clued up on.
There must be laws regarding noise etc? (I'm based in Perth, Western Australia)

Thanks very much,

Billy

Hi Billy,
I would be talking to your local council for a start. Find out what noise restictions you would be faced with and also, (very important step here!) talk to ALL your neighbours and let them know what it is that you are planning to do!
Explain to them the type of noise, duration, traffic expected etc.
Keep the lines of communication well and truly open as any complaints could shout you down faster than you can change a tool in your machine!
If the council and your neighbours let you go ahead, make sure you stick to any agreements regarding noise and pollution or once again, you will shut down real quick and then you will really have to be hunting for somewhere else (read expensive) to move your flegling business to!
Hope it all works out for you!
Regards
Brian.
