can homebuild 3 Axis CNC Mill make automotive product?

Hi Guys
I just want to know if I build my own 3 Axis CNC Mill can I use it to make automotive parts like throttle body's, brackets, pulleys? or do I have to take it to a professional cnc shop?

pulleys and tbs would be easier made on lathe, than tb would be finished of on mill...

There is to many unknown variables to your question. How big are you making this machine, horsepower, rigidity ect. A decent size cnc knee mill will probably have all the criteria to perform those operations.

Yes and no. It all depends on what you're trying to build, how complicated and the level of perfection that you seek to attain.

3D milling is not easy, especially when/if you try to do profile milling. It takes a GOOD machine to do that. By the time to create and develop a home brew, you could have bought and paid for a TM1 and been off and running from the get go.

For 1 or 2 pieces, get the part done via a pro. If you want to get into the business, buy a good 3 axis machine - you'll spend less in time and money. If you're looking at it for a hobby, party on and the Zone is a good source for dream wear and/or real projects.

ok, I was just asking bc I will be making more then 1 or 2 items its for my small business? and how much does it cost to get it done by a professional?

You still need end mills, accessories, and support equipment though. I spent about $6,000 getting my shop setup for metalworking. This included:

4-Axis CNC Sieg X2 Mini Mill
Lathe
Press Brake and Shears
Bandsaw and 14" Cutoff saw.
Drill Press and Vises
MIG Welder and Spot Welder.
Hydraulic Press
Grinders
Clamps
Etc. Etc.

Most of the money ($2200) was dumped into the mill. I bought everything for the mill in kit form because I'm short on time.
