What is a quick and accurate way to cut small pieces of stock (in a horizontal saw) when you get to the end of the material? For example; I had a project cutting 5" diameter bar stock (6061) and the parts were cut to a thickness of 1-5/16". Now with a I am down to approx. about 3" long piece of stock. How do I hold the remaining portion of stock and still get a straight cut. Our say (Jet) has a space of 2-1/8" from the end of the solid clamp jaw to the blade and a 2-1/4" gap from the end of the floating jaw. |

| I usually scrounge a couple of stout parallels, perhaps a couple of pieces of 3/4" x 4" flat bar set on edge. They should be at least as long as your vise is wide. Set them inside the vise, extending out very near to the blade. Put your piece of stock in position between the parallel extensions, and use another piece of your previously sawn stock for a spacer at the opposite end. Tighten the vise and check that both pieces are snug. Saw away.

| We made a full support fixture. With jack screws to keep the jaws square and a stop to keep the saw from cutting the fixture off. Don't meen to be mean but will a Jet saw EVER cut square?
