Does anyone know if someone makes a Big-Plus style BT40 toolholder for 1" or 1.25" shank (w/flats) indexable drills? The closest I can find is Sandvik's Capto line. We have a lot of straight shank indexable drills and we'd like to use in Big-Plus style holders. thanks |

Sandvik Capto is a polygonal taper and is incompatible with a BT spindle. May I ask, why do you want a Big Plus toolholder for drilling? Are having a performance problem with your indexable drills?

I mean the closest drill holders I can find are BT to Capto adapters. We currently have one Sandvik drill with the Capto Big Plus adapter and it is awesome. I want to use other straight shank drills with Big Plus so we can benefit from the extra rigidity and improved hole finish.

Right on...just haven't heard too many people using it for drilling. None of our machines have a Big Plus spindle, and I've heard mixed reaction from two different people who have used it. I guess the application is different. I'd love to hear more about how it affects your application. These guys may have what you're looking for, or can at least point you in the right direction. (they have the patent on Big Plus) http://www.bigkaiser.com/ Has one of your local tooling distributors been able to help?

I'd be surprised if anyone who's used them doesn't like Big Plus tooling. We have 2 Big Plus milling chucks and they are great. The rigidity is improved greatly. We have a 1.25" Sandvik drill with Big Plus, and you cannot even feel the machine shake at all when it's entering material. Another good thing about the milling chucks is that they are balanced very well. I've checked bigkaiser.com with no luck.
